Corporate Social Responsibility
CSR Strategy
Our core business is petrochemicals and we will continuously pursue growth opportunities which complement our strengths and create value for our stakeholders
We will apply innovation, technology and resources to create better products to help our customers make a whole range of products that bring convenience, safety and value to their end-users. We do this by continually reviewing the impact of our business on society, economy and environment and through engaging stakeholders
Corporate social responsibility runs through the fabric of our organisation and guides our business decisions.
- GROWTH
- Evolve our business and operations in collaboration with stakeholders. Identify and capitalise on opportunities that bring or create value for stakeholders.
- PRODUCTS
- Develop products that continually push the envelope in all respects; from sourcing to function and form to disposal.
- OPERATIONS
- Strive to improve quality, productivity, efficiency and safety. Find creative solutions to reduce usage of energy and natural resources and at the same time, minimise waste in line with our commitment to Responsible Care.
- COMMUNITIES
- Build vibrant communities by providing jobs, career development, safety and health protection for our employees and their families.
- By contributing to and encouraging our employees to participate in programmes that impact the community and society in a positive way.
- ENVIRONMENT
- Look for ways to improve the impact of our business on the environment by going beyond compliance.
COMMITMENT TO OUR COMMUNITY
Titan Chemicals is committed to the community in which it operates and has over
the years, provided support and assistance to numerous organizations and worthy
causes. Current programs include the following:
RM10,000 for Yayasan Sunbeams Home in KL and Pusat Penjagaan Kanak-kanak
Terencat Akal
Titan donated RM10,000 to two children’s homes, in Ampang and Johor Bahru
Two children’s homes – Yayasan Sunbeams Home in KL and Pusat Penjagaan
Kanak-kanak Terencat Akal in Johore benefited from the company’s generosity.
Each home received RM 5,000 to cover basic needs like food, clothing and
shelter.
Yayasan Sunbeams is home to 50 underprivileged children while Pusat Penjagaan
Kanak-kanak Terencat Akal looks after 160 severely handicapped children.
Our employees make us proud!
260 Titan employees volunteered their services to spruce up a school in Johor on
17 June 2006
Joint Consultative Committee
The Joint Consultative Committee (JCC), was formed to promote staff
welfare and to improve communications among staff at all levels.
In 2006, as part of its corporate social responsibility initiative, the JCC
committee established the Community School Programme to improve the facilities
of schools in the state of Johor. Three schools have been identified to be part
of this programme and they are Sekolah Kebangsaan Kongkong Laut in Masai,
Sekolah Perigi Acheh, Pasir Gudang and Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Tamil) Pasir
Gudang.
Working with Yayasan Harapan Kanak-kanak Malaysia (YHKM)
Collaborated with Yayasan Harapan Kanak-Kanak Malaysia to give 250
underprivileged children their first theatre experience
In August 2006, the company worked with Yayasan Harapan Kanak-kanak Malaysia
(YHKM) a non-profit organization that protects the rights and welfare of the
children, to treat 250 underprivileged children to the premiere of “Garfield”
at GSC Mid Valley.
Two hundred and fifty underprivileged children came from 7 homes - Agathian
Shelter, Pusat Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti, Gurpuri Foundation, Pertubuhan
Anak-anak Yatim Alkhairiyah , Pertubuhan Anak-Anak Tengku Budriah, Persatuan
Down Sindrom Malaysia, and Rumah Anak-anak Yatim Hulu Kelang Selangor.
A team of employees from Titan Chemicals joined YHKM volunteers to manage the
children.
Taking advantage of this special outing, forty children from Rembau-based Pusat
Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti came by KTM Komuter. The children, comprising orphans
and some with physical and mental disabilities, ranged from 5 years to 14 years
of age. Some had never used an escalator and this proved a challenge to the
team of volunteers. Volunteers encouraged, cajoled and eventually carried the
children as they made their way from KTM Komuter Station at one end of Mid
Valley to the GSC cinema halls at the other end of the mall.
Titan Chemicals’ HR Manager, En. Zakaria said, “Being a part of this event has
opened our eyes to how fortunate we are and how we each can play a role, no
matter how small, in helping the less fortunate in our communities. It’s really
hard to imagine that there are children who live just 30 min away from Kuala
Lumpur who have never boarded a komuter and used an escalator.”
Mr. Ramesh Patel, Pengerusi of Pusat Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti said, “These
children have never been to a shopping mall or taken a train ride before and
this was a great opportunity for us to expose them to parts of life that almost
all Malaysians take for granted.”
Funds generated from Titan Chemicals’ contributions as well as from other
sponsors will be channeled to YHKM’s efforts to construct The Miracle of Hope
Home, a project for children suffering with HIV/AIDS in Salak Tinggi, Selangor.
Children with AIDS are subject to exploitation, pain and discrimination. The
society at large is ignorant of the fact that children do live and suffer with
this AIDS epidemic. Most of these children contracted this virus from their
parents, most of whom have died and have left these children orphaned.
