Titan Pledges RM100,000 in Show of Support for Local State Charity - JARO
It was a day of good will and humanitarian deeds as Titan Petrochemicals &
Polymers Berhad (“Titan”), Johor's petrochemicals giant, made a worthy donation
of RM 100,000 to the Johor Area Rehabilitation Organization, or better known as
JARO. Titan's Managing Director, Donald M. Condon, Jr., was on hand to present
a mock cheque for the amount to JARO's Patron, YAB Menteri Besar Johor Dato'
Haji Abdul Ghani Othman and JARO’s Chairman YB Dato' Dr Lim Kee Jin. The
ceremony was held in conjunction with an official visit by YAB Dato’ Haji Abdul
Ghani Othman to the JARO centre.
The donation will be used to fund lunch meals for the JARO workers over the next
two years. Besides providing employment to sixty-seven (67) people, JARO
supplies them with coffee and tea break and simple lunch meals with their
limited funds. Thanks to Titan's charitable donation, employees who rely on
JARO as their sole means of income, will be provided with a more substantial
lunch daily.
Titan's Managing Director, Donald Condon said he was glad that the local
community was benefiting directly from Titan’s donation. He said "There were
many options available to Titan to make our small contribution to society. But,
we wanted to be involved in something beyond a monetary donation. JARO has
afforded us the opportunity to provide substantial meals for its employees, and
also partake in helping out with the maintenance and refurbishment of the JARO
facilities”.
He added, “This is just the beginning of our relationship with JARO. Titan has
identified JARO as its preferred charity and support of JARO will come from the
whole Titan family. Titan employees will soon be filling the halls of JARO, to
provide some much needed maintenance works for the building and fund raising
campaigns to further improve the longer term well-being of the JARO family. We
want our staff to truly see and feel the benefit of giving selflessly,
especially to the community within which Titan operates in”.
Dato' Dr Lim Kee Jin said, “We are extremely honoured to have our patron, YAB
Menteri Besar Johor Dato' Haji Abdul Ghani Othman here today and to receive
this generous donation from Titan. Over the year’s JARO has received strong
support from local businesses, and it truly is heartening to see a company such
as Titan make the effort to go that extra mile.
He added “ We are truly appreciative of Titan's civic responsibility and hope
that other companies will follow their exemplary service to their community."
JARO is a non-profit organization dedicated to the rehabilitation of disabled
people and provision of jobs and skills aimed at helping them by giving them a
sense of independence to lead normal lives within the mainstream of society.
JARO manages three sheltered workshops that cater to the rehabilitation
requirements of the intellectually, physically and socially impaired. The
workshops provide training for soft skills that are income enhancing like
tailoring, basketry and bookbinding.
Titan owns and operates Malaysia's first fully integrated petrochemical complex,
and is the largest olefin and polyolefin producer in the country. In terms of
capacity, Titan is the second largest polyolefins producer in Southeast Asia.
Titan’s facilities are located on two integrated industrial sites at Pasir
Gudang and Tanjung Langsat in Malaysia’s southern state, Johor.
