TITAN CHEMICALS’ TO FUND A COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTRE IN ACHEH
Titan honours pledge for Tsunami reconstruction efforts
Kuala Lumpur, 8 August 2005 – Titan Chemicals Corp. Bhd. made a RM270, 000
contribution to Mercy Humanitarian Fund, for the construction cost of Puskesmas
Meuraxa ( Meuraxa Community Health Centre) in Acheh. This contribution is part
of the RM1 million pledge made to Dato’ Sri Najib Abdul Razak on 3 February
2005, for Tsunami Relief and Reconstruction efforts.
An initial contribution of RM 100,000 was made earlier this year to the
Malaysian Tsunami Disaster Fund. In addition to this, the employees of Titan
Chemicals in a Ringgit-to-Ringgit match by the company donated RM54, 512 to
Mercy Humanitarian Fund, which was independent of the RM1 million pledge.
Mr. Don M Condon Jr, Managing Director of Titan Chemicals presented Ms Shahreen
Dato Abdul Ghani, Chief Operating Officer, Mercy Malaysia in the corporate
offices of Titan Chemicals here today.
Mr Condon said, “The Titan Chemicals-Mercy alliance is natural as we share
Mercy’s concerns and objectives and we want to make a difference in the
re-construction efforts. We know that there is still an urgent need for basic
accommodation and health facilities for thousands of people.”
“This contribution of RM 270,000 will fund the building cost of Puskesmas
Meuraxa (Meuraxa Community Health Centre), in Desa Blang Oi, Kecamatan Meuraxa,
Kota Banda Aceh. This is the health centre which will benefit 12,000 people. ”
Pn Shahreen Dato Abdul Ghani said that the Meuraxa Community Health Centre would
house Doctor’s Room, Emergency Room, Registration Counter, Administration Area,
Pharmacy, General Polyclinic and Dental Polyclinic among others.
Other works, which will be carried out in this project, include the building
access roads, car park and drainage, gateway and fencing, electrical
installation works, internal sewerage system and reticulation works and
internal plumbing system and water reticulation system.
