Program Nature – Our Approach
For the pilot program, this Johor state-level Plastic Education Program runs for about six months with the focus on three main components of education.
- Polymer Science
Topics ranging from Introduction to Plastics, Basic Polymer Science, Types of Commodity Plastics, Properties of Plastics, Identification of Plastics, Manufacturing of Plastics, and Plastics & the Environment.
- Environmental Conservation
In Titan Chemicals, we believe Man’s attitude and behavior can be changed if we take concerted effort to understand the environment and address the problems arising from and relating to the environment on a holistic approach. What better way if this awareness program is instilled and cultivated in the minds of the young. The education on environmental conservation is addressed and covered under the Plastics & Environment module.
- Project Management & Problem-Solving Tools
Under this module, the participants will be taught to identify and investigate issues and problems affecting the environment at their respective schools through the knowledge of project management and problem-solving tools. The problem-solving tools in particular will help the students to acquire innate skills for identifying and solving environmental issues.
Rules & Regulations
The basic rules and regulations for the competing schools to observe are as follows:
- Workshop and Coaching & Guide
All participating schools are required to attend all the necessary trainings at the workshop and during coaching & guide sessions by their appointed mentor during the program period.
- Forming a Team
All participating schools must have 8 students in a team. The students are required to form a team with each person holding a position, namely, chairperson, secretary, treasury, communications and committee members.
- Registration of team members
Each team member must register his/her name with the approval of their school and their names must be confirmed and registered with Titan Chemicals’ organizing committee. Should there be a change of team member(s), the school is responsible to inform Titan Chemicals’ organizing committee.
- Adhering Venue Rules
All students attending the workshop must adhere to the rules & regulations of the venue where the event is organized.
- Submission of Project Proposal
All participating schools must submit their proposed projects 2 (two) weeks after the workshop is being held.
- Project Must Be Verified
All participating schools must implement their projects when the projects proposed have been verified by Titan Chemicals’ organizing committee.
- Project Implementation Period
All participating schools must implement their projects within the given period by the organizing committee. Failing which, marks will be deducted based on the seriousness or merits of the problem
- Utilization of Working Grants
All participating schools must utilize the working grants of RM 1,000 for the projects they want to implement. The team members must keep good accounting ledger on the utilization of the funds.
- Banner & Poster
All participating schools will each be given a banner measuring 3ft by 8ft to be hung at their school premises, in an effort to create publicity and to announce to the community of their participation in Plastic Education Program. A3-sized posters will also be provided for them to create visibility and publicity of the program in their school.
- Changes to Project
All participating schools must immediately inform Titan Chemicals’ organizing committee or their appointed mentor in advance about changes they may want to make in regards to the projects they are pursuing.
- Submission of Project
All participating schools must submit their project at the given date. Failure to hit the deadline may cause a certain percentage of marks to be deducted. Specific date for submission of the project will be communicated to the participating schools through microsite.
- Use of Microsite
The use of microsite, established for Plastic Education Program, is strictly for communication and networking between competing teams or between members of a team. It is not to be abused and used for personal gains. The URL for the microsite is as follows:
- School Visits
Titan Chemicals organizing committee or appointed mentors will make periodical visits to schools for the purpose of coaching & guide the participating schools. Since approval from the school authorities and District Education Department is necessary, it is advised the school authorities to inform the District Education Department on the scheduling and rescheduling of the visitations.
- Convention, Exhibition and Closing Ceremony
All participating schools are required to attend all three events at the apex of this program, namely, the Convention, the Exhibition and the Closing Ceremony. The Convention, by definition, is the slides presentation by the students in a team to a panel of judges on the implemented projects and they will be adjudged on the presentation given. The Exhibition means the team members of the participating schools are required to show the results of their implemented projects at exhibition booths that will be provided by the organizer. While the Closing Ceremony is an elaborated event whereby official results of the competition are announced with dignitaries, VIPs, members of the media, guests from relevant authorities as well as the public are invited to attend.
Judging
The competition schematic process is based on judging components as per table below:

Extra marks will be given to participating schools which are resourceful, having proper meeting records and minutes, good attendance by team members, good accounting based on working grants given or generation of resources and good teamwork .The most deserving school will entitle to win Best Managed Project prize category.
