Primary Uses
- Polyethylene plastic production.
- Raw material for ethylene oxide, ethylene dichloride and polyethylene glycol manufacture.
- Used as an anesthetic agent (in an 85% ethylene/15% oxygen ratio).
- To ripen green picked fruit, but a non-flammable mixed gas of carbon dioxide 94%, ethylene 6% (by weight) is preferred.
- As the fuel gas for welding, brazing, metal cutting, orchard spray to control flowering of pineapples
