Plastic Technical Centre

MARKET-FOCUSED, PRODUCT AND PROCESS INNOVATION

Established in 2000 at a cost of several million US dollars Plastic Technical Centre (PTC) is Malaysia's largest technical centre for the polylefins industry, dedicated to product and process development and improvement. The centre, which is located at Titan Chemicals' Tanjung Langsat site, provides trouble-shooting services and crucial technical training to customers' employees. It also promotes the generation of innovative ideas through in-depth research and development.

The PTC Team, which consists of 21 technical professionals, work closely with domestic customers to provide technical service and assistance.  With close relationship to the technology licensors and with the technical support of the Westlake Group, the PTC team develops new product grades to meet customers' specifications, provide training for customers' employees in product usage, and assists Titan Chemicals with the introduction of new production technologies.

As of December 31, 2004, Titan Chemicals had provided technical training to more than 1,500 employees of downstream fabricators. The PTC is currently involved in a number of new product development initiatives, including high crystallinity PP, fractional flow grades of Homo-polymer PP and Co-polymers PP, and blow molding grade of bimodal HDPE.

Titan Chemicals' PTC has been instrumental in attracting and retaining domestic customers. Titan Chemicals is evaluating the feasibility of establishing similar centers in China to serve its offshore customers.
